MORE HP PREDICTIONS

As I continue my Harry Potter read-through (just about to finish Prisoner of Azkaban), I have been pondering a few more out-and-out predictions for Deathly Hallows...

Here are a few:

1)....Peter Pettigrew will save Harry's life somehow, in payment of the life-debt he owes Harry. I don't think this necessarily means Peter will die, however. I expect he will rather give Harry information that helps saves Harry's life. After all, Peter is, ultimately, a betrayer.

2)....As I've said recently, the house-elves (most of them, at least) will join forces to fight alongside the Order of the Phoenix at Hogwarts. With wands in their hands, they will prove formidable. Hermione will exude "I told you so" about this.

3)....We will see Fenrir Grayback again in DH.

4)....Someone will Apparate into, out of, or within Hogwarts. Without the help of Fawkes. And it won't be a house-elf. Maybe it'll be Harry. Not sure about that, but someone will do it.

5)....Harry will attempt again to cast "Crucio." If he succeeds, his doing so will have dire consequences for Harry himself.

Okay, there are just a few out-there thoughts. What do you think? Agree? Disagree?

Hmmm... yes, on Pettigrew. He will finally do something that causes Harry to be glad of having spared him back in PoA ('cause he sure ain't done it yet!). I've said elsewhere that I think Pettigrew will turn traitor again -- this time betraying Death Eaters (Snape most likely) to the Order. More than a traitor, he's a rat at heart. He's going to rat someone out once more.

2. House Elves with wands to Hermione's smug I-told-you-so? Hmmm... interesting concept, not so sure it's gonna happen.

3. Now this one is even more intriguing. We've been told so many many times that it can't be done. Harry just might be able to do it somehow ... maybe an exception Dumbledore made ("just in case").

4. Maybe ... but I hope not. I'd like to see Harry give up trying this one. Maybe he will give it up. After all, the charge of cowardice struck Snape far harder than any spell Harry attempted ... and Bella said righteous anger won't cut it.

Oh definitely. I think this is one of the must-happens.

2)....house elves With wands in their hands

Not quite a must-happen. But I really hope to see house-elf payoff. As well as Giant Payoff, and Grawp payoff.

3)....We will see Fenrir Grayback again in DH.

Oh yeah, he's bad guy #2, a significant victory on the road to killing Voldemort. It's possible (I think) that Lupin will bring him down.

4)....Someone will Apparate into, out of, or within Hogwarts.

Seems likely!

5)....Harry will attempt again to cast "Crucio."
Attempt, maybe. Succeed ... not sure if we have enough time in the book to deal with the consequences if he does. I feel this would be too great of a twist to throw in at this juncture. I'd like to see him give up on doing it (though still be tempted). Actually, the payoff would be if the circumstances were ideal for him to do it (say, to Snape, when Snape was wounded) and he turned away from doing so.

That's almost a must-have.

My husband's been going on and on about house elves and wands for about a week now since we started our reread. He was very happy to see you predict it as well.

I like all the predictions. And I think something may have to come of Hermione's knack for conjuring portable waterproof fire, as well.

Why do you think someone will apparate in/out of Hogwarts? What will it do for the story?

(By the way, I downloaded your book and read it after attending Sonorus earlier this month. Thoroughly enjoyed your predictions and your reasoning behind them.)

Hi Janet--Found your blog through the comment you left on The Lexicon. I wanted to say that I really loved your interviews on the A&E special that was televised last night. You spoke very well and with such passion! Kudos!

As for your predictions, I really think the house elves will be important to Harry's fight against Voldemort, and I was excited when I read what you wrote because no one else seems to agree with me on this! The house elves are just too prevalent throughout the story to have been put there for entertainment purposes only. They have their special brand of magic, which I think will play some part in the conflict.

I'm interested to hear why you think #4 will happen.
